As players progress through the main story mode, which follows one of the fictional skaters trying to achieve a professional status, sponsorship's are obtained which give players access to new skateboards and clothing.

These sponsorship's are rewards for beating competition levels, where players must obtain a high score but are also judged based on skill, style and risk taking. The legacy of the game can be seen in later skateboarding titles such as the Skate and OlliOlli titles. Thrasher Presents: Skate and Destroy.

A skateboarding game with technical depth and an original expression of street-skate culture in video-games. He's very good at spinning, popping enormous ollies and flinging himself through the air. His tech skills are below par, but he can grind any rail, curb, coping with anything you throw at him. Tough and versatile, looks more like a surfer than a skater.

Enormous Ollies Kahli A good all-round skater but he tends to focus on fliptricks and ledges more than other street terrain. When it rains he busts raps on the streets to make ends meet. Since I'm too clumsy to be good at skateboarding in real life, it's good that there are games like this and Tony Hawk. Thrasher's easy to get into and all of a sudden you lose track of time as you break laws and ride up the walls and get tazed in the arse I like that to progress in the game you have to get a certain amount of points in each level, bringing you to think about certain lineups of tricks.

A solid title, but second to the TH. If it weren't for Tony Hawk, Thrasher would be one of the better skate games out there. And for a title that doesn't strive to do too much, it's actually not bad. Basically you're set loose on several levels to achieve as many trick points as possible before time runs out and the cops come. The trick system, while extensive, isn't too friendly. You have to memorize lots of combos to rake in the big points. I'll give it points for its old-school hip-hop soundtrack though.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater set a standard in what ultimately can only be a small niche genre of video games.
